"For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God ...Ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God." Romans 8:14-16
The "spirit of adoption" refers to God’s holy spirit (His power and influence) as a sign of acceptance into God's family, offering guidance, sanctification and confirmation of this sonship. It signifies that those who have accepted Jesus and seek to approach God are recognized as God's children. This spirit serves as a divine testimony of their adoption, sealing them as “sons” and “joint heirs” with Christ. To attain this status, we must be anointed into the body of Christ and sanctified (set apart from the world) in order to better understand and fulfill God's will.
This spirit is not just a passive recognition but an active force that transforms. It allows true followers of Jesus to understand and appreciate divine truths beyond mere intellectual knowledge, bringing them into true spiritual harmony with God.
Once “adopted,” we must preserve this spirit—keeping it vibrant and not diminished by doubt or grief.
In essence, the spirit of adoption affirms divine acceptance and serves as both a guide and proof of our relationship with God.
