Scripture states that God is Love, He is a consuming fire, He is pure Spirit, and He is truth....can you tell me where those scriptures are located? And how can these all be true?

1 John 4:8,  "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."

1 John 4:16,  "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him."

Psalm 31:55, "Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth."

Hebrews 12:29, "For our God is a consuming fire."

John 4:24 (ESV), "God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

These scriptures are referring to God and different aspects of his character and being.

When the Apostle John says that God is love, he means that God is the personification of Love, expressed by every aspect of his grand and glorious character. He implies that every aspect of his actions in his dealing with his intelligent creatures is based on love, and that in order to know God one must believe this truth.

When the Psalmist describes Jehovah as the God of truth, he is assuring us that we can believe and rely upon all of God’s word to be absolute truth even though we may not be able to comprehend its application. Titus 1:2, "... God, who cannot lie..."

When the Apostle Paul states that God is a consuming fire he does not mean that God is a tormenting Deity. He is simply affirming the fact that God is opposed to all sin and unrighteousness, and ultimately will destroy everything that is out of harmony with his holy will. His wonderful provision of grace through Christ makes acceptable the service of true Christians. But his law still stands that “the wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23) This ‘present evil world’ will now be ‘devoured’ by the ‘fire’ of God’s ‘jealousy’. Zephaniah 3:8 (NKJV), "Therefore wait for Me," says the LORD, "Until the day I rise up for plunder; My determination is to gather the nations (in Armageddon) to My assembly of kingdoms, to pour on them My indignation, all My fierce anger (the destruction of the unjust, evil systems and governments?); All the earth shall be devoured With the fire of My jealousy. (But the fire is not literal because the very next verse teaches God will give mankind a pure language so they may call upon Him and love Him.)

Zephaniah 3:9 (NKJV) - "For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language, That they all may call on the name of the LORD, To serve Him with one accord."
